Non-Profit Commitment
OpenHouse is a non-profit platform and our primary goal is to serve the community. We recognize that the rental market is stressful, non-transparent and unfair for you. OpenHouse aims to provide a fair and open platform where more people, especially students and young adults, can easily access housing information and find a place that suits you.

Smart Roommate Matching
Nowadays, when sharing a room has become a common demand, finding a suitable roommate is sometimes more difficult than finding an apartment. OpenHouse provides a smart roommate matching system, which allows you to swipe and see criteria such as age, gender, living habits, pet preferences, smoking/drinking habits, etc., as well as fill in a self-introduction. This feature helps you to find roommates with compatible life rhythms and similar interests with greater peace of mind.
Comprehensive Housing Search
OpenHouse is committed to creating a transparent and comparable platform. We show you the price, size, amenities, contract details, as well as other similar listings for side-by-side comparisons and historical price comparison. So that you can avoid being misled by inaccurate information.

One United Platform
Instead of switching back and forth between Facebook groups, Craigslist, forums, and school chats, OpenHouse consolidates listings from multiple platforms into one app, making it the most complete hub of rental information in the Madison area. Even if some landlords aren’t part of the OpenHouse community at the moment, we’ve tagged and linked their listing pages to make sure you can browse as many options as possible on one platform.
Transparent Rating System
The app opens up a rating system for landlords, roommates and apartments so they can share their real-life rental experiences. This helps later renters to avoid pitfalls. Meanwhile, it encourages landlords to provide a more honest and friendly service environment. By establishing a reputation mechanism for landlords, we hope to build a more mutually trusting rental ecosystem, thus improving the rental culture of the whole city.

Two-Step Verification
OpenHouse uses a Two-Step Verification process to validate user profiles. When you set up your account, the app will prompt you to submit a video selfie that we will use to verify that your photos match your face. You cannot start matching on the app until you’ve been photo verified. Once you get photo verified, you will be asked to verify your student status by signing in with your school email account. Our two-step verification process ensures complete transparency, so users can swipe with peace of mind.
