set your preferences
When you create your account, you’ll be promoted to set up your housing preferences that you can change later under the “filters” tab in the sidebar. You can filter for rent, unit size, location, room type, amenities, pet policy and smoking policy.
start swiping
Once you’ve set your preferences, you can start swiping under the “housing matching” tab. If you like the property you can swipe right, and if you want to pass, swipe left. All the properties you swiped right on will appear under the “my matches” tab in “housing matches”.
reach out
Under the “my matches” tab, OpenHouse will automatically generate a text conversation for all of the properties you like where you can reach out to lessors directly to ask questions or schedule a tour. You can view the property’s by clicking on their contact photo.
sign your lease
When you’ve found the perfect place for you, you’re ready to sign the lease! While you can’t sign the lease directly in the app, OpenHouse will guide you through the process and connect you with the property’s site.

how to find your next roommate on open house
set your preferences
When you create your account, you’ll be promoted to set up your roommate preferences, which you can always change later under the “filters” tab in the sidebar. You can filter for gender, age, budget, location preference, room type, cleanliness, sleep habits, pets, drinking, smoking and alcohol habits.
start swiping
Once you’ve set your preferences, you can start swiping under the “roomie matching” tab. If you like the person’s profile, you can swipe right, and if you want to pass, swipe left.
match
Just like with dating apps, you’ll only match when both of you swipe right on each other. When you match with someone, their profiles will show up in the “my matches” tab under “roommate matching,” along with an auto-generated text conversation.
reach out
Find the text conversation under “roommate matching” in the “my matches” tab and start chatting. Hopefully you’ll hit it off and find your next best friend!
